Molecatcher wins a mountain of support

Campaigning molecatcher Peter Brown received a standing ovation for his speech at the UK Independence Party’s spring conference in Scarborough.

He spoke about the effects of EU legislation on small businesses. He told the 350-strong audience his problems stemmed from the EU directive banning strychnine poison which he said has been used by molecatchers for the past 70 years.

It has been replaced by traps or aluminium phosphate which are less effective, he said, and cost twice as much as strychnine.

It was the first time Mr Brown has ever addressed such a large audience and he walked off the stage to a standing ovation.

Nigel Farage, MEP, the UKIP leader, said: “Peter was superb and the response he received showed that his heartfelt speech touched a chord.”
