Battle of the bands a Boon!

DJ and former Inspiral Carpets keyboardist Clint Boon has praised Oldham Library for holding a Battle of the Bands night.
Saturday evening is set to showcase the borough’s best musical talent and has received a raft of entries from local bands.
Jonny Brown of Oldham’s three-piece Twisted Wheel, who are signed to Columbia Records, will perform a special acoustic set, before judging the contest.
Battle of the Bands is by the Get it Loud in Libraries campaign, which is designed to give young people who love music a good time in between the book shelves.
Clint said: “I’m really excited at the idea of using the country’s libraries for purposes other than storing, lending and reading books.
“It’s been heart-warming in recent years to see the amount of libraries around the UK that have been holding live music events within their walls.
“Oldham Library is an absolutely wonderful building — in its architecture and spirit.
“The work they’re doing there is priceless and groundbreaking . . . so let’s have a party!”
