Repairs to begin on our pot-holed roads

MOTORISTS are set for months of misery as repair work begins on the borough’s weather damaged roads.
A £10 million Highways Investment Programme will take place over the next four years in a bid to make local roads more durable.
Councillor John McCann, cabinet member for regeneration and environment, said: “The borough’s carriageways, like those across most parts of the country, suffered terribly due to the harsh winter with many pot-holes and cracks appearing.
“Not only that but many improvement schemes which were due to start had to be postponed because of the terrible conditions and concerns over the safety of workers and equipment.
“However, winter is behind us and we can now start carrying out planned improvement work, many on busy roads which once completed will help improve access and driving conditions.
“As these works start over the coming weeks there is bound to be some inconvenience for motorists and residents and I can only apologise for this in advance.
“I thank motorists in advance for their patience as the short-term pain of disruption will be countered by better driving conditions in the long term.
“As a council it is our duty to provide good quality roads for residents and motorists.
“We know how important that is and this is why we are prioritising this work over the next few months.”
