Man punched sick mother

A MAN thumped his terminally-ill mother and bit his sister while visiting their home to charge his mobile phone.
Jeremy Flanagan (31) was warned by magistrates in Manchester that he was very lucky not to be sent straight to prison.
“What you did crossed the custody threshold” said chairman Mrs Pauline Salisbury, giving him a three-month sentence suspended for two years.
Flanagan, of Ripponden Road, Oldham, was also ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work after admitting two counts of common assault in January.
Prosecutor Tess Kenyon said Flanagan had been drunk when he turned up at the house in Wythenshawe and later became aggressive. After grabbing his sister round the neck he bit her on the leg and punched his mother on the shoulder.
Caroline Wilbraham, defending, said Flanagan was deeply ashamed of himself. “He accepts that drink and drugs were a factor in this matter and that he has caused his family a lot of distress” added Mrs Wilbraham.
