OLDHAM youngsters have delved into the past to create striking images for the future to brighten up Hollinwood canal.
Teens from the Chadderton District Youth Forum put their urban stamp on the canal bridge with a creative take on some of Oldham’s landmarks.
Working alongside graffiti artist Russell Meehan, the group chose their images of the area through the ages and spent three days working to transform the walls with colourful murals.
They had help from Chadderton Historical Society to pick out iconic images to be captured with a modern twist.
A stylised Ram Mill, a striking town hall, Foxdenton Hall and cooling towers were among the snapshots emblazoned onto bridge walls near the Bower Hotel.
Councillor Jack Hulme, Cabinet member for children and young people, said: “We were deeply impressed with the hard work and commitment that the young people put into this project.
“It has really helped to brighten up the area and provide a point of interest for local people.
“The young people particularly enjoyed getting involved in the project and we hope that the images will remain at the bridge for locals to enjoy for many years to come.”
