DAVID Martin, left, the Coliseum’s executive director and Kevin Shaw, the theatre chief executive and artistic director, receive the key to the Old Library from Councillor Knox.
REHEARSALS for the latest Coliseum productions will move across town to the Old Library, to allow essential maintenance work in the theatre.
The council has offered staff at the Fairbottom Street theatre access to the unused building in Union Street while the theatre’s heating system is replaced and asbestos removed.
The local authority is spending £1.45 million to secure the longer-term future of the theatre.
Councillor Kay Knox, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Services, said: “The council is committed to doing everything it can to secure the future of the Coliseum Theatre and this allows us to make excellent use of the Old Library building.”
