Trust this team to work wonders

YOUNG volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got down to some hard work to overhaul vandalised grounds at Holy Trinity Church, Coldhurst.
Not only did they carry out the spadework, they planned and raised money with a car wash, bag pack, raffle and sponsored walk to fund the project.
The 12 volunteers, aged 16-25, spent three weeks on the project as part of the Prince’s Trust Team programme, run by Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale.
And their determination, drive, helpfulness and enthusiasm has been commended by church wardens John and Sylvia Greenwood, who said working with them was “a truly uplifting experience.”
The church grounds were in dire need of regeneration after being targeted by vandals, and the team chose to help because of the benefit to the local community.
The young people worked through all weathers to weed, cut back overgrown brambles and plant flowers, as well as sand and paint doors, gates, steps, planters and benches.
Jo Shaw, Groundwork Prince’s Trust team leader, said: “The team has worked so hard to raise the funds to pay for all the materials needed to improve the church grounds.
“They worked really well together, and I would also like to say a big thanks to all the local businesses that have kindly donated and supported this worthy cause.”
The community project carried out at Holy Trinity is part of a Prince’s Trust programme which helps young people to build confidence, communication, leadership and team skills.
The team members also gain qualifications to boost their CV.
A new Prince’s Trust Team will be set up in Oldham on Monday, April 4.
An open day takes place at Brook, Union Street, Oldham, tomorrow, at 1pm, for young people aged between 16 and 25 to find out more and join up.
