Raising the flag at war memorial
Date published: 30 March 2011
A CEREMONY to inaugurate a new flagpole at Hollinwood War Memorial will be held on Sunday.
The installation of the flagpole, allowing the Union flag to fly permanently at the memorial in the grounds of St Margaret’s Church, Chapel Road, comes ahead of refurbishment work set to start next month.
Funded by a £6,000 grant from Failsworth and Hollinwood District Partnership, the work includes re-engraving the names of the fallen on stone panels, situated on the west wall of the church, which have eroded.
The work will be carried out by a local firm, Lloyd and Smith, which also did extensive repairs to the church tower. Members of the community are invited to the event at 12.15pm.
