Cremation charges rise £90

THE cost of dying is set to rise as Oldham Council increase cremation costs by 20 per cent.

Fees for the service will be £550 from Friday, up from £460 in December.

Costs for other services, such as burials, memorial plaques and use of the chapel for funeral services, will stay the same.

Elaine McLean, executive Ddirector for economy, place and skills, said: “Oldham Council has to make £41 million in savings.

“The council maintains seven cemetery sites and the crematorium to a good quality while managing funerals and keeping sites safe for visitors. There are no easy options in this economic climate.”
