PUPILS at Crompton Primary School are using iPod technology as an educational tool thanks to funding from the British Council.
The school is one of a cluster participating in the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms initiative, a three-year project linking UK and overseas schools, aiming to promote global citizenship.
Crompton Primary, Royton and Crompton Secondary and Mayfield Primary schools are each partnered with a school in Pakistan.
Each year £12,000 is granted to each cluster in order to foster sustainable ideas in the classroom.
Last year it was used for cameras and a video camera. This year it was used to buy eight iPods to link schools by sending video messages, and video conferencing within the school.
Crompton parents were invited into the classroom to see how they are being used first-hand at a special parents’ evening.
Year Five pupil Jessica Eyres was impressed by the versatility of the technology and said: “We have used them as dictionaries and to take photos and videos with.”
Head teacher Martin Moore said: “ICT plays an integral role in modern-day education and by staying abreast of and embracing new technologies our pupils are given novel and exciting opportunities to support their learning.”
