Woman, 83, dies after bus fall

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after the death of an 83-year-old woman who fell on a bus.
Lilian Farthing, from Huddersfield Road, Oldham, suffered a broken hip and banged her head shortly after getting on the 81A bus on Lord Street, Oldham, shortly after 1.05pm on February 22.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance but died on March 27.
Known as Lily, she was a retired cleaner and a widow. She leaves behind a sister, son and nieces and nephews.
Police were told of the incident on Thursday.
Lily’s niece, Victoria Jolly, said: “My aunt was an extremely independent woman who was well liked by all who knew her.
“She was always cheerful and had a strong passion for reading.
“She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.”
Sgt Simeon Holt, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was on the bus or in the general area when this incident happened.
“While it was more than a month ago I am sure anyone on the bus or near by will vividly remember this and I would encourage them to get in touch.”
