AN Oldham taxi driver has had his licence suspended after being charged with sexual assault.
Wajid Mahmood (25), of Napier Street East, is due to appear at Oldham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 11.
The case relates to an incident in Shakespeare Road on Friday, January 21, where a man allegedly touched a woman’s thigh in a car at around 8.30am.
Elaine McLean, Oldham Council’s executive director for economy, place and skills, said: “Oldham Council can confirm a private hire taxi driver has had his licence suspended after he was charged with a criminal offence by Greater Manchester Police.
“As the licensing authority the council has the power to take this action and has done so following consultation with Greater Manchester Police.
“Oldham Council’s priority is to protect the safety of people who travel in private hire vehicles.”
