OLDHAM-BORN television presenter John Stapleton will celebrate his home town’s history as part of a new series on BBC Radio Manchester.

John, who started his career as a journalist at the Oldham Chronicle, will front the programme —to be broadcast tomorrow — and will delve into the heritage and history of the borough.

The fascinating programme will look into the link between the Oldham Coliseum and Coronation Street, the history of brass bands as well as hearing about Albert Pierrepoint, who became one of Britain’s most infamous hangmen.

John said: “I’m from Oldham, so I was very interested to hear some of the local stories that have had a significant impact on my hometown, such as Albert Pierrepoint.”

John Stapleton’s History of Oldham can be heard on BBC Radio Manchester, 95.1 FM/ DAB tomorrow, from noon to 1pm.
