Schools’ results praised

THREE Oldham secondaries have been commended by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) for their improved results.

Royton and Crompton, Failsworth and the former Breeze Hill school were among the 494 schools which increased their five A*to C pass rate, including English and maths, by at least 20 per centage points since 2007.

They went up from 37 to 61 per cent at Royton and Crompton, 29 to 51 per cent at Failsworth and 17 to 38 per cent at Breeze Hill.

The SSAT represents more than 5,600 specialist schools, academies and education bodies.

Chief executive Elizabeth Reid said: “Congratulations to all schools and their students where GCSE results have made dramatic improvements.

“There have been big strides in achievement in many schools and that can only be good news.”

Royton and Crompton head teacher Desmond Herlihy said: “This achievement is excellent because it is concrete evidence of the high quality teaching and learning which we produce at Royton and Crompton School.

“Well done to all staff and pupils and thanks to parents and governors for their support.”
