Inspectors propel ‘good’ St Margaret’s out of bottom set
OLDHAM’S last school in special measures has now been rated as “good” by inspectors after a vast improvement.
St Margaret’s Junior, Infant and Nursery School, Hive Street, Hollinwood, was judged to require special measures in October, 2009, because it was failing to give pupils an acceptable standard of education.
But it has now been lifted out of Ofsted’s lowest category and is rated in the second-highest group after a remarkable transformation.
A recent unannounced inspection observed 18 lessons and held meetings with parents, pupils and staff. Inspectors said much has been achieved by strong teamwork and close co-operation between the school, governors and the local authority. The school has improved significantly over the past year and St Margaret’s now provides a good education for its pupils.
