Filming project is a hit

PUPILS at Crompton Primary School became young broadcasters with the help of the BBC.

They created a film for Manchester Museum to be shown as part of its Living Worlds gallery which opens on Thursday.

The Longfield Road school is taking part in the On Our Doorstep project, part of the BBC’s 21st Century Classrooms scheme.

Year 5 pupils were treated to a digital demonstration followed by a workshop helping them to experiment with broadcast quality cameras, microphones and headphones before creating their own films, interviews, debates and animations within the school buildings and grounds.

The new gallery explores the connections between all living things and shows how man shapes the future by the choices we make.

One of the films created by the pupils looks at the change in land use from the former New Barn school to Crompton Primary as it is now.

Pupils will get an exclusive invitation to preview their films at the gallery. They will also be available on the BBC website.

Head teacher Martin Moore said: “The project has provided immeasurable opportunities for hands-on learning for our pupils.

“I am so proud of what the children have achieved during the course of this project.

“We are looking forward to seeing their films at the museum.”
