A 37-YEAR-OLD man warned on Facebook that he would kill himself before carrying out his final act, an inquest heard.
Jonathan William Day, of Coleridge Road, Sholver, was found hanged by his father at their family home in the early hours of November 29, 2009.
The warehouse supervisor had spent the evening drinking at home with a friend.
His dad went downstairs to make a drink at 4am when he noticed lights on.
He saw his son hanging from a light fitting and immediately dialled 999. Police officers discovered 16 cans of Guinness and four cans of lager in Jonathan’s bedroom — and his Facebook account still logged-in on the computer.
DC Paul Coburn, of Oldham CID, confirmed that the messages Jonathan had posted detailed what he intended to do, but no-one had responded to them or encouraged him to act.
Family members said Jonathan hadn’t expressed worries or concerns and had been looking forward to moving house.
Coroner Simon Nelson said: “I have clear evidence of the mechanism which had been placed there, and could have only been placed there, by Jonathan Day.
“Sadly, a combination of the mechanism and the revelations on Facebook leaves me with no doubt and with great sadness, that Jonathan intended the consequences of his actions and that he took his own life.”
