Fires rage on moors

NOT a volcano erupting but a grass fire, quickly dealt with by firefighters
THE smell of smoke in Denshaw and Shaw on Saturday afternoon was due to a series of moor fires over the Pennines.
A water-dumping helicopter was brought in to help some 50 firefighters tackle the outbreaks which started near Marsden in Huddersfield.
The total area affected was 1.5km of moorland — some of which is owned by the National Trust.
Firefighters also tackled a blaze which spread to an acre of moorland by Dovestone Reservoir from 8pm on Sunday.
