UNITED and City fans will not be able to booze on the train as they make their way to Wembley for Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final clash.
Thousands of fans are expected to travel by train between Manchester Piccadilly, London Euston and the three stations around Wembley in time for the 5.15pm kick off.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers will be patrolling trains to make sure the day goes as smoothly as possible for fans, other passengers and rail staff.
Alcohol will not be allowed to be bought, carried or consumed on trains travelling between Piccadilly and Euston on Saturday from 5.25am and 1.45pm or on return journeys from 7.10pm.
Drinking from or carrying open containers of alcohol on the London Underground Network is also banned.
Supt Dave Roney, of BTP, said: “Saturday promises to be a great day for both Manchester United and Manchester City fans and our officers will be helping everyone to enjoy it, as well as ensuring everyone travels to and from the game safely.
“Throughout the day, we will have officers patrolling stations and on-board trains between Manchester and London. We will not tolerate intimidating or anti-social behaviour from those intent on spoiling the day for others.
“Trains can become extremely busy during major sporting events such as this and we would urge fans to consider other passengers at all times.
“We’re asking fans to show some consideration for others on board the train and to moderate their language and behaviour. But above all, we want them to enjoy the day.
“We appreciate the vast majority are always well behaved, but we are warning anyone who steps out of line while travelling on the rail network will be dealt with by our officers.
“Not only are they risking a court appearance, they also risk missing out on seeing the match.
“Finally, fans should be aware that there are limited return train services to Manchester Piccadilly which will impact on the train capacity to get supporters home.
“Fans should therefore plan their journey accordingly and consider whether other means of travel may be more appropriate.”
