Jobs help for workers struck by cancer

A NEW project is helping cancer patients return to or remain in work.
Shaw Trust, The Christie and Macmillan Cancer Support have teamed up to help people who want to continue with their jobs.
The vocational-rehabilitation project ensures patients receive the information, advice and support they need.
It has helped over 160 patients since last July, surpassing the original estimate of 150 clients within 12 months.
The project has been so successful it expects to double the original expected number of people it helps back into work, demonstrating the urgent need for such schemes.
Shaw Trust is a national charity that provides training and work opportunities for people who are disadvantaged due to disability, ill health or other social circumstances.
Chief executive Sally Burton said: “Cancer patients can face many barriers on the road into, or returning to, employment. People diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment should not have to overcome these hurdles alone.”
