PLANS to bring electric vehicles to Oldham by the autumn are moving forward.
The scheme, funded by a £3.6million government grant, will see electric cars, vans and bikes charged up at specific points across the borough.
A total of 300 charging sites will be created across Greater Manchester. Now the hunt is on in Oldham to identify suitable sites which will encourage the use of electric vehicles.
Michelle Carr, the council’s assistant director of economic development and planning, said early discussions had already taken place with transport chiefs.
She added: “This is about looking ahead and about the aspirations of the town as a hub for science and technology. It sits very well in starting to change the image of the town.”
Town Centre Partnership chairman Andrew Fletcher said: “The message we want in Oldham is ‘I can recharge while doing something else like go to the shops.’”
