Work taster for 2,200 youngsters

A NEW work experience initiative which aims to give youngsters a skill boost, has been set up.
Over 2,200 jobseekers aged 18 to 24 in Oldham can now take part in the eight-week placements, without it affecting their benefits under new government rules.
The drive — part of a £200 million government package — comes after new unemployment figures were published by the Office for National Statistics.
They showed that youth unemployment continued to rise in the three months to February despite an overall drop in the unemployment figures for the UK.
Employment minister, Chris Grayling said: “There are challenges ahead and our priority is to continue to support the economy, by reducing the deficit and putting in place measures to encourage growth in the private sector.”
“The introduction of the new work experience initiative will help young people develop their skills, enhance their CVs and build new contacts to get into work.
“Work experience is an excellent way for young people to gain the practical experience”
Young people who are interested in doing a placement can speak to a Jobcentre Plus adviser who will match them with a suitable opportunity.
