ONE man’s junk is another man’s treasure — and it’s certainly proving the case in Royton, where residents are enjoying exchanging unwanted goods for free.

A new online swap shop is being held on the I Love Royton page of Facebook, which has already attracted 1,100 members.

Its debut giveaway offered a rare Oasis CD wall plaque. Another swap takes place at 6pm today.

Piano dealer Mark Goodwin (31), of Rochdale Road, who set up the site, says he hopes it will avoid waste going to landfill unnecessarily.

He said: “Don’t throw away those DVDs or hairdryers until you’ve offered them up for free. This is a great way to get hold of things you need without spending a penny.”

Mr Goodwin came up with the idea when he recently moved house.

Several prams and cots have been offered for new parents, as well as household items. Swap sessions take place every Wednesday at 9am and 6pm.
