Date published: 20 April 2011

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after armed thieves stole cash from a Hollinwood shop.

Two men, one brandishing a silver pistol, entered the Co-op in Hollins Road at about 5.50pm on Saturday, April 16.

They demanded cash from the tills and fled after stealing a small amount, but did not fire the weapon. It is believed the thieves came in the direction of Watts Street, Limeside and then up Hollins Road, and fled via the same route.

The gunman is described as white, in his early 20s, of a slim build and about 5ft 10in tall. He was wearing dark clothing and had his face covered. The other man was also white, in his early 20s, of a skinny build and about 6ft tall. He also had his face covered and was wearing a grey hooded top.

Det Cons Paul Cockburn, of Oldham CID, said: “These men had one intent in mind and that was to cause as much fear as possible in order to get their hands on some money.”

Police are continuing with house-to house inquiries. Anyone with information is asked to call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
