Tunnel launches new attractions

FRESH from celebrating its 200th birthday, Stanedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre has lined up a host of Easter activities.
The Horseboating Society will be making a welcome return on St George’s Day. The legging boat will emerge at Stanedge at 3.30pm recreating St George’s fight against the dragon to save the villagers of Marsden.
As well as the popular guided boat trips into the longest canal tunnel in the country, there’s also a whole new children’s playground in the picnic area behind the visitor centre.
The activity playground sits alongside a newly-created wildlife and sensory garden which has been created by a group of volunteers.
Visitor services manager James Dean said: “The playground is perfect for local children. The new space is fun, interactive and is a great addition to the tunnel, visitor centre and cafe offer. We’ve also got some fun Easter trails around the site where children can win chocolate prizes. We also have an extra special treat the weekend after Easter with a car rally featuring some classic Minis, as well as one of our craft fairs.”
