ONE of the oldest traditions in Britain was supported in Oldham yesterday.
Greenfield’s annual Maundy Thursday fair can be traced back to the Magna Carta of 1215, but the right to hold it would be forfeited if it was missed for just one year.
So stall holders organise it every year to ensure it survives and locals give it their support, cherishing their unique historical role. There were five stalls at the Road End event yesterday including the Saddleworth branch of MacMillan Cancer Support who were selling surprise wrapped gifts for £1.
