Toast to the birthday girl
Date published: 22 April 2011
A GREAT-GREAT grandmother who lived in Glodwick for 83 years celebrates her 105th birthday today.
Ena Astin insists her long life is down to her love of whisky and will no doubt be having a wee dram to celebrate at a special birthday party with her friends and family.
Ena, formerly of Mansfield Road, now resides at Newfield Lodge Rest Home in Lytham St Anne’s.
She attended St Mark’s Church in Glodwick, where she met and fell in love with her late husband Alfred. They had four children, Dilys, the late Freda, the late Arnold and Joan.
Joan said: “Even though mum is a little immobile, she can still read and has lots of wonderful memories of her years in Oldham.”
