INDEPENDENT STATEMENTS

Warren Bates - Failsworth West
Why should we be made to pay for out-of-control high spending, bonus-mad bankers?
Slashing public spending will deepen the recession. The most vulnerable are picking up the bills.
Pensioner winter fuel allowance cut, children and pensioners’ bus fares increased, it’s scandalous.
Many parents with young families are struggling trying to find money for school meals.
As an independent I will remind elected councillors of the real world.
Our housing waiting lists are a scandal and we need a massive house- building programme, no apartments, just houses with gardens for our young families.
JOHN BERRY - Hollinwood
THE current council has been in office for the last 12 months with no legitimate mandate.
One that wastes £000s of OUR money on posters, advertising and leaflets to tell us how great it is.
As for the Conservatives and the Big Society, someone should tell David Cameron neither seem to have reached Hollinwood.
I want to cut waste, remove the Cabinet system, install an elected mayor and see value for money for OUR taxes.
All I ask is that you trust me with you vote on May 5. I will do my all to serve Hollinwood, not a political party.
KEN HULME - Saddleworth North
Described in the Oldham Chronicle as a Crusading Councillor Ken has been in the forefront of many local campaigns in the past eight years.
He was a leading figure in the successful campaign against wind farms on Denshaw Moor, vigorously opposed the closure of Delph Library and was the only local councillor to oppose the congestion charge.
Ken opposed the plans to redevelop Delph Independent Chapel and is campaigning to restore the graveyard.
Ken has campaigned consistently for a school safety zone outside Delph School and a 20mph speed limit through the village.
STUART ALLSOPP - Waterhead
POLITICIANS claim “we live in a democracy. If you don’t like what we do, you can vote us out”.
So, people of Waterhead, deliver your verdict on years of failure and betrayal.
Instead of claiming credit for stopping things I was once in favour of, I won’t be jumping on populist bandwagons.
Zero per cent council tax rise, lists of meeting attendances, reduction in councillors, 10 per cent cut in expenses are all policies I suggested years ago and were dismissed.
They have now been adopted.
If you want someone who leads instead of following, vote independent Stuart Allsopp on May 5. www.stuart.allsopp.com
