Oldham wiped off the tourist map!

HOLMFIRTH Tourist Information centre certainly isn’t helping to put Oldham on the map.
On a visit to the land of Last of the Summer Wine, a reader pointed out to us that Homfirth’s visitor guide doesn’t include our town despite featuring smaller towns and places further away.
But with many Oldham folk making the trip over to the Peak District, Sue Rhodes, manager at Holmfirth Tourist Information Office, assures Oldhamers they haven’t been forgotten.
She said: “This is not our main guide — it’s just one that has a good map of Holmfirth centre on the opposite side for visitors.
“I don’t know why Oldham isn’t on the main map. Our guide is produced by another company but we do have other guides of Oldham available. We haven’t forgotten you in Oldham!”
A spokeswoman for CPL Group, which produces the pamphlets, said: “The maps are provided to us by a maps company. It covers most of the people in the surrounding area and I’m sure there are little towns which aren’t on it too.
“We work closely with the tourist information office as they pass everything we provide to try to encourage people to visit the area.
“We will look into it and make sure it is changed for next map that is produced.”
