Gateway artist wanted
Date published: 29 April 2011
ARTISTS are wanted to help spruce up a developing community area in Oldham.
Symphony Housing Group wants to appoint an experienced artist to develop public art work in the St Mary’s area, where a £16 million gateway site for Oldham will include new homes, infrastructure and open space.
Shanine Meadowcroft, from the group, said: “The first phase will see the artist engaging with the public to discuss and assess what the local community would like to see in the public realm area.
“Once funding has been secured for the proposed artwork, the artist will then undertake the design itself.”
The successful application will be expected to engage and encourage the public to join the project and ensure a collaborative approach to a final design — which could be anything from an exhibition to a performance. Closing date for proposals is May 8: contact Shanine Meadowcroft on 0161 875 8002 or at shanine.meadowcroft@symphonyhousing.org.uk
