NEVER forget... Unison branch secretary Julie Finnegan lays a wreath to remember those killed in the workplace
LOCAL people fell silent yesterday to pay tribute to those killed in the workplace.
Led by Oldham Unison, representatives from several unions joined forces at the memorial gardens in Oldham town centre to hold a short service.
A minute of silence marked Workers Memorial Day, as the group gathered in the sunshine around the plaque laid in 2004.
Among those laying a wreath and paying their respects were members of Unite, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers and GMB, the General Union.
Linzi Herbertson (38), whose husband died after falling from scaffolding, also lead a rally in Albert Square, Manchester, yesterday. The Failsworth widow aimed to highlight health and safety failings by taking part in a march.
