Benefit-fraud case adjourned
Date published: 29 April 2011
A WOMAN who reported a politician to a benefits hotline has had her own benefits fraud case adjourned.
Rebecca McGladdery (44), of Galland Street, Greenacres, faces three charges in a Department of Work and Pensions prosecution.
The charges relate to failing to notify a change of circumstances while claiming benefits, and of making false statements to obtain benefits.
McGladdery hit the headlines before last year’s general election when she appeared on TV and in newspapers saying candidate Elwyn Watkins had paid staff less than the minimum wage.
He was reported to HM Revenue and Customs, but an investigation found they were working as volunteers, not employees.
Oldham magistrates yesterday adjourned proceeding until May 24 to give her solicitor time to review the case.
McGladdery, who was not in court yesterday, had unconditional bail extended in her absence.
