Schools put on style

SCHOOLS across the borough embraced the Royal wedding with a series of parties and special events — with many youngsters receiving a commemorative coin to mark the happy occasion
A brass band played at Buckstones Primary School’s wedding festivities.
The Delamere Avenue pupils donned their best outfits and enjoyed a picnic feast outside in a street party, which included a game of musical thrones.
Children decorated cakes with patriotic icing and the winners of the Royal T-shirt decorating contest proudly showed off their entries.
A traditional garden party was in order for pupils and teachers at Beal Vale Primary School.
Princesses
Some children dressed up as princes and princesses for the day while others opted to sport colours of the Union Jack.
The whole school enjoyed a feast fit for a king. Pupils ate cheese and jam sandwiches, as well as an array of crisps and cakes — kindly prepared by the school’s kitchen.
They spent the week leading up to the big day making their own crowns, commemorative plates and decorating their school reception.
Party time proved popular for youngsters at South Failsworth Primary School who held a street party on school grounds.
The playground was decorated in bunting and children donned Union Jack hats and waved patriotic flags.
Each class was invited to bring in and share a whole host of tasty treats including crisps and cakes.
Youngsters at Failsworth’s Propps Hall Primary School learnt all about our royal heritage when they celebrated.
They then enjoyed a street party and a Prince and Princess Day with pupils dressed as royalty or in red, white and blue.
Headteacher Gillian Kay said: “We think they looked brilliant. We gave all our children a flag, crown, pom pom. It’s definitely something to commemorate and celebrate so we decided to do it in style.”
Patriotic pupils at St Hugh’s School in Holts flew the British flag in excitement for the royal nuptials.
The playground was transformed into a bustling street party, complete with music, party games and a delicious buffet brimming with food.
A sea of red, white and blue brought wedding fever to the school.
Pupils at Royton Hall Primary School made flags and hats and decorated biscuits as they enjoyed a street party.
Parents, staff and children worked together to make food and ensure it was an afternoon to remember.
Wedding mania descended on St Mary’s Primary School in High Crompton as a fun-filled game of musical thrones ensued. Pupils sported red, white and blue and some even dressed up in their finery as princes and princesses.
A traditional wedding disco saw children boogie on down and tuck into wedding feast including cupcakes during an outdoor tea party.
Blackshaw Lane Primary School enjoyed special William and Kate cupcakes for dessert at their Royal Wedding street party.
Crompton Primary School pupils held a royal banquet in their school grounds, with bunting and flags, after pupils enjoyed activities focusing on the wedding of the year.
St Patrick’s RC School Oldham also had their own bride and groom, while St Anne’s at Lydgate had a whole school fancy dress party with Lydgate Brass Band providing the music.
A great time was had by all — and there was an extra day off school too!
