A GIFTED teenager is swapping pints for pirouettes after winning a prestigious place at the Hammond Stage School in Chester.

Natalie Maloney, of Glebe Street, Shaw, who works at The Morning Star pub, competed against 3,000 rivals to earn one of only 40 positions.

The 18-year-old former gymnast, who can dance jazz, contemporary, ballet and tap, is currently studying a BTEC in dance at The Manchester College and also enjoyed touring with the street dance team Equinox at Carrie Hanson’s School of Dance in Middleton.

She even enjoyed dance classes at the famous Pineapple Dance Studios in London.

Natalie said: “The stage is an intoxicating mixture to me — the bright lights, open space and an audience to amaze, all of which I find exciting. I aspire to be deeply involved in the performing industry and be qualified and experienced enough to perform in the industry.”

Natalie’s ambition is to perform on the West End or a cruise ship. She added: “I save every penny from my weekend work at the pub and dance classes I run, but the financial implications of attending the stage school are massive.”

Millie Gair, her teacher at The Manchester College, said: “Natalie is a very focused individual and a delight to teach. I have total belief that if Natalie were given the opportunity to continue studying she would undoubtedly forge out a fantastic career in dance.”

Natalie has managed to raise over half of the money but is struggling to find the extra cash needed to pay for the scholarship. If any local businesses or individuals can sponsor her, call her mum, Joanne, on 01706-883229 or 07716-837 006.
