SHAW & CROMPTON PARISH COUNCIL

POLLS OPEN 7AM-10PM

NEW faces are guaranteed on the Shaw and Crompton Parish Council as voters go to the polls.

Only the North and West wards will elect members after a walkover already saw members selected for the East and South wards.

Current parish councillors not standing for re-election are Liberal Democrats Simon Farrell, Hazel Gloster, Diane Williamson, Mari Wiswell and Ken Wingate.

New members will be certain in the North ward as David Dunning is the only current member out of seven candidates vying for four seats.

The current balance of power is 12 Lib-Dem members, one Conservative and one vacancy.

North (four seats)



John Aspinall (Lib-Dem) is a retired police officer with over 30 years service who moved into Shaw and Crompton 11 years ago. He was a sergeant for 18 years mainly on front-line policing, custody and plain clothed duties. A volunteer qualified person councillor, he has worked in the social housing sector with vulnerable adults.

Phelyp Bennett (Con) is a former chairman of the parish council. A long-standing, independently-minded campaigner for the area, he is a trustee member of Dunwood Park Committee and a member of the local parish environment subcommittee.

Susan Eckersley (Lib-Dem) is a computer analyst who has lived in Shaw for over 20 years. A member of Crompton Hall Action Group for over six years, she has been active in speaking at planning meetings and public inquiries, causing planning applications to be refused.

*David Dunning (Con) is married with two sons and one daughter. He is a long-serving parish councillor having served as chairman twice. He is a committee member of High Crompton Park and governor of Beal Vale and Rushcroft primary schools.

Angie Farrell (Lib-Dem) served on Oldham Council, standing up for people with disabilities. She has lived in the area for nearly 25 years and served on the parish council from 1991 until 2007. She stood down following the loss of her husband, Tony. Angie runs her own training consultancy.

David Fleming (Con) has lived in High Crompton for over 30 years and has served as a committee member for the High Crompton Conservative Club. David has two grown-up children and this is the first time he has stood for election to the parish council.

James Hall (Lib-Dem) has lived in Shaw and Crompton for most of his life and attended Crompton House School. Married with one son, he has just started his own ICT business, working on major corporate networks and infrastructures throughout the UK.




West (three seats)



David Bibby (Independent) has lived in Heyside for 40 years, was educated at Royton and Crompton School and has served as a school governor at Mayfield and High Barn schools. He was a member of the community health council and works as a machine operator with a local soft furnishing manufacturer.

*Mike Dodd (Lib-Dem) is a current member of Shaw and Crompton Parish Council, is council representative on the District Partnership and PACT meetings. He has been at the forefront organising many local festivities.

Marjory Robinson (Lib-Dem) moved to Shaw from the West Midlands following redundancy after 36 years for the same company in 2008. She looks after her two grandchildren while her son and daughter-in-law work. She is a volunteer at the Surestart Children’s Centre.

*Taseen Sajjad (Lib-Dem) has lived in Shaw all his life and is married with three sporty sons. He runs a family business in the centre of Shaw and recently graduated with an MBA from the Manchester Business School.
