OLDHAM MP Debbie Abrahams learned more about the help on offer for local addicts when she visited a specialist centre.
Mrs Abrahams, who represents Oldham East and Saddleworth, was introduced to staff and service users at Addiction Dependency Solutions (ADS), in Greaves Street, which offers help to those experiencing problems with drugs and alcohol.
The Labour MP discovered exactly what support is available and how the centre helps addicts get their lives back on track.
Rhona Bradley, chief executive of ADS, said: “I was very pleased to be able to show off the fantastic work that the team does here and it was a very informative and enjoyable morning.”
Mrs Abrahams added: “I thoroughly enjoyed my morning with the team at ADS Oldham and meeting its service users.
“I first worked with ADS in Tameside as a public health professional and was very impressed with them then. So I’m delighted to see the excellent work they are doing in Oldham as well.
“My visit was highly informative and showed the very important work that ADS does for the community. I am looking forward to working with the team over the coming years.”
ADS Oldham’s service is free to anyone over 18 who lives in the borough and has problems with alcohol or drug misuse.
Staff help to develop a plan to identify key priorities and work out goals for treatment including one-to-one sessions, workshops, alternative therapies or referral to other treatments.
There are 30 service centres across the North-West working with in excess of 15,000 people a year.
