Counting the cost of ‘eyesore’ house

A HOLLINS man who refused to clean up his act has been punished in court.
Pietro Storrto, of Withens Road, was fined £525 and ordered to pay £625 by Oldham magistrates after council officers deemed his house to be an eyesore and detrimental to the environment.
Environmental health first contacted Storrto in August, last year, because his home was in such a poor condition.
He had also accumulated various items in his garden including a number of uPVC windows and a scrap car.
A section 215 Notice under the Town and Country Planning Act was served on Storrto requiring him to clean up but he failed to carry out any of the work stated and legal proceedings were launched.
Storrto failed to attend his hearing at Oldham Magistrates’ Court on April 28 and was found guilty in his absence.
Elaine McLean, executive director for economy, place and skills, said: “Storrto was given plenty of opportunities to remedy the situation but his failure to do so shows he had total disregard for his neighbours and the local environment.”
