Workers in acid drama
Date published: 06 May 2011
WORKERS on Union Street were left spattered with battery acid yesterday after a dramatic explosion.
Firefighters were called to the scene by the side of Halfords at around 1.30pm after the battery on a tipper truck erupted.
Two crews from Oldham and Hollins, and a special unit from Hyde, attended the incident thought to have been caused by a build-up of gas in the Ford Transit tipper.
A pair of workers managed to leap from the danger zone but had to be cleaned down by firefighters as a precaution.
