The mighty Daves . . . Garforth, Ogden and Spence, ready for their big bike ride
A TEAM of Daves are hitting Britain’s roads for a challenging 300-mile charity bike ride.
Dave Garforth (47), from Moorside, Dave Spence (55), of Shaw, and Dave Ogden (42), from Watersheddings, are stepping up a gear in preparation for their third annual ride — the toughest yet.
And another Dave — Dave Ogden Senior — will be driving along in a car to egg the cyclists on.
This time the workmates from Oldham Diodes in Chadderton, are riding from Berwick via Kendal to Oldham — a total of 300 miles.
They are doing the challenge in memory of Dave Garforth’s father, Orlando, who died in May, 2007, from cancer.
On May 19 they set off on their mission, with all the cash raised going to Macmillan Nurses.
Dave Garforth said: “I felt compelled not only to support the cancer charities, but also give myself a challenge to help me through the grieving process.
“Every year we do a ride and we’re going further and further each year.
“Hopefully this will lead to the big one — doing John O’ Groats to Land’s End, which is 900 miles, in a few years!”
He added: “If our fundraising can help by donating cash to a cancer charity then our sore muscles and backsides will not have ached in vain!”
