Nissan Micra: lucky escape
A HEAVILY pregnant woman is recovering after being involved in a dramatic car crash in Oldham.
The 35-year-old, only seven weeks from her due date, was involved in the accident in Park Road on Thursday at around 12.30pm.
The woman was in the passenger seat of a green Fiat Punto when a grey Nissan Micra smashed into the rear of the car, before continuing along the road and flipping on to its roof near the Alexandra Central Retail Park.
The woman suffered cracked ribs, a sore arm and severe neck pain as well as cuts and bruises.
The accident came only days after she was told her baby had an irregular heartbeat. However, check-ups revealed the baby was unharmed. It was thought from initial police reports that the woman was the driver of the Nissan, however it has since been clarified that she was in the Punto with her husband, stationary at traffic lights at the time of the accident.
Witness reports suggest it was a 22-year-old Asian man driving the Micra, who was taken to hospital for treatment where he is still awaiting an operation.
