Morning sunlight delight

LIMITED edition prints of this stunning oil painting by respected Saddleworth artist John McCombs are going on sale for to celebrate this year’s festival of the arts.

The piece, entitled Morning Sunlight, Canal Tunnel, Diggle, captures the local beauty spot with rugged realism and heavy brush strokes.

Priced at £25, each commemorative print is signed by the artist and serves to mark the bicentenary of the Stanedge tunnel this year.

Limited to a run of 195 copies, it’s a chance to purchase your own bit of history.

John McCombs, an award-winning landscape and figure painter, was born in Manchester but settled in Saddleworth as a professional artist after attending St Martin’s College of Art in London.

He has since gone on to become an elected member of the Royal Society of British Artists and have his work hung in galleries across the globe.

As well as being available to buy at the Oldham Chronicle office in Union Street, the prints are also available in Uppermill at the civic hall, Saddleworth Museum and the Millyard Gallery.
