STAFF from Pennine Acute Trust are swapping hospital scrubs for running gear as they take part in the BUPA Manchester 10k run on Sunday to raise money for the Trust’s In Your Hands Appeal.
Nineteen doctors, nurses and support staff will be running to support the appeal.
Their aim is to buy equipment for the new purpose-built women and children’s super centre at The Royal Oldham Hospital which will include a neonatal intensive care unit.
The appeal was launched in February and is looking to raise £200,000 by the time the new development opens in December, 2012.
Once complete, The Royal Oldham Hospital will be one of three regional centres providing the highest level of intensive care.
It is expected that the new children’s and maternity service will treat approximately 8,000 children a year from the Oldham, Rochdale and adjacent districts, in a new state-of-the-art children’s unit.
Anna Jackson, project manager, said: “I think everyone is really looking forward to the race although I’m sure there will be some serious competition to see who finishes first. The thought of what we are rasing money for will certainly keep me going to the finish line.”
Jan Bolton, fundraising manager, Pennine Acute Trust, said: “It is absolutely wonderful to see so many of our staff supporting the appeal.
