Public has say on NHS future

OLDHAM residents believe difficult choices will have to be made to shape the future of the NHS, according to a new poll.

They also believe patients who repeatedly ignore clinical advice should not be prioritised for treatment.

A total of 12 NHS patients from varied Oldham communities were consulted as part of the survey about fairness.

Feedback will now help GPs shape health services.

The poll was run on behalf of the Commissioning for Oldham Group (COG), made up of all the GPs in Oldham.

COG will be responsible for commissioning health services in Oldham once all primary care trusts are disbanded in 2013.

Ian Wilkinson, Chadderton GP and chairman of the Commissioning for Oldham Group, said: “There is much work ahead to develop health services and systems which meet the needs of local people and the feedback from the commission will be a great aid in this.”
