Flying the flag against intolerance
Date published: 18 May 2011
THE rainbow flag flew over Oldham yesterday to mark the annual International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO).
It was raised at the Civic Centre for the fifth successive year, as well as at Oldham Police Station and the force’s headquarters in Trafford.
Two events at Gallery Oldham kicked off with performance poetry by Dominic Berry. Oldham, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (OLGBT) events group then organised a performance of Show One, which looks at homophobia in society, by Pink Triangle Theatre Company.
IDAHO marks the date in 1992 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses.
