A new chapter for author Steve

AN author who survived a life-threatening illness is donating the royalties from his new book to a men’s cancer campaign.

Steve Cage (49) was diagnosed with testicular cancer while writing his book and was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital— where he believes doctors acted so quickly that they saved his life.

His book, Now the Killing Starts, is a fast-action novel aimed at men aged 18-44, which is the age group most susceptible to testicular cancer.

Steve, from Rochdale, who is also a film producer, has teamed up with the Everyman campaign and is donating £1 per book to help raise awareness of the disease.

He said: “I’ve written a short introduction about my cancer story. It’s nothing to do with the actual thriller story but the idea is guys (or their women) buy my book, see the Everyman logo on the back, and read my intro before they read the book.

“Everyman gets a quid per book, men get testicular cancer flagged up to them — and maybe we save some lives.

Steve is under the care of Christie’s in Manchester but comes to the Royal Oldham Hospital every four months for a check-up.

“Testicular cancer is the cancer men in the UK are most likely to get.

“It turned my life upside down but luckily we caught it in time,” he said.
