THE broken trailer spilled steel on to the road
RUSH-HOUR commuters faced traffic chaos when a lorry shed its load in Werneth.
The chassis of the HGV split in two causing a large amount of steel to spill on to Manchester Road at 8.20am on Friday.
The steel deck sections formed part of a portable multi-storey car park, owned by Manchester Cabins, that was on its way back from Basildon to Hollinwood.
Frank Rothwell, owner of Manchester Cabins, said: “The extendable trailer broke and the steel fell onto the road. We transferred the load but it took a long time.”
Both lanes were shut for several hours between Frederick Street and Cambridge Street as heavy- duty lifting gear was brought in to clear the steel.
