TALENTED florists used their skills to fill Dr Kershaw’s Hospice with heady perfume, colourful blooms and stunning displays.
Oldham Floral Art Society teamed up with flower enthusiasts from Chadderton and Saddleworth to deck out the Royton hospice on a Saturday Night at the Movies theme.
Around 300 people turned out to the two-day event to see floral interpretations of films ranging from Star Wars and Billy Elliot to Gone with the Wind and Brief Encounter.
The weekend, which included raffles and a tombola, with prizes donated by Oldham Floral Art Society members and their friends, and tea and cakes, raised £1,500 for the hospice.
Society chairman Kathleen Williams said: “It was a wonderful weekend. So many people came, and the staff and volunteers at the hospice make it such a friendly atmosphere.
“We just laughed and laughed and had a really enjoyable time as well as raising money for the hospice.”
Some of the flower arrangements were sold and others were left at the hospice. “We left it looking rather beautiful,” said Kathleen.
Fundraising for the hospice continues on Tuesday, June 14, with a demonstration by the society at Daisy Nook Garden Centre, Failsworth, starting at 7pm, tickets £2.50 on the door. All proceeds go to Dr Kershaw’s.
