Honoured: Nanu Miah receives his Man of the Year award from Andrew Stephenson, Conservative MP for Pendle.
A COMMUNITY activist who took action to help cut crime in his neighbourhood has been acknowledged at an awards ceremony.
Nanu Miah, an Oldham-based school educator, has worked tirelessly for two decades to make his community safer, as well as standing up against racism.
The Fusion Awards, which aim to reward the endeavours of people who make a real difference to the lives of those around them, presented Nanu with its Man of the Year award.
Earlier this year, Nanu organised an Indian wrestling event which raised funds for medical care in Bangladesh.
He also helped set up twilight patrols in Westwood and Coldhurst to try to stem a rising tide of prostitution and drug dealing.
The awards took place at a glittering awards ceremony at Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
