A PAIR of would-be robbers fled empty-handed following an attempted raid at a Failsworth takeaway.

The masked men, one armed with a machete, tried to take money from the till at The Golden Lake in Hardman Lane at 10.30pm last Thursday.

The owner saw them coming and ran into the back to phone the police, while the raiders looked for the till before leaving the shop empty-handed.

Both were white. One wore a striped hooded top and the other had a jacket, dark at the top and white at the bottom.

Det-Con Joe Burke, of Oldham CID, said. “These two males were walking the streets carrying a machete before attempting to rob a local business and I am certain someone will have seen them or know who they are.

“The men pose a threat to the public and need to be caught as soon as possible and if anyone has information that can help this investigation, particularly about their clothing, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161-856 8951 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555 111.
