Race-equality chief faces inquiry
Date published: 26 May 2011
A RACE-equality chief from Oldham is to be investigated over alleged homophobic comments made in the run-up to last year’s election in Oldham East and Saddleworth.
Mohammed Tufail, director of Cardiff and Vale Race Equality First in Wales, makes the apparent comments on a video that has been posted on You Tube.
He is seen confronting a group of Muslims who were distributing leaflets outside Pitt Street Mosque, Glodwick, where he was president at the time. Mr Tufail (56), who lives in Oldham, was awarded the OBE for services to community relationships.
He was a strong supporter of Mr Phil Woolas who was later stripped of his Oldham East and Saddleworth seat for lying in election leaflets.
The board of trustees at Cardiff and Vale Race Equality First says it will investigate.
